Charl, some of the tankers have a boom and drogue (basket) system.
For servicing the drogue hose can be partially , or fully extended. I have a photo somewhere , showing a whole row of parked 135s with semi deployed hose and baskets ....weird looking.
Some versions also carry the hose and basket system in under wing pods. Very capable piece of equipment, being able to refuel both plug in and probe equipped aircraft

USN and USMC aircraft types rely on the drogue system. The French Air Force Mirage 2000s also rely on that system.
