C-130H Swansong - March banner

Postby Adamski » Thu Jan 30, 2025 6:39 pm

The RNZAF workhorse C-130H has just been retired:
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/540425/royal-nz-air-force-to-retire-c-130h-hercules-fleet

I thought it'd be appropriate to do a tribute banner.

All shots welcome (but remember to keep the larger/higher resolution originals). Don't let Marty get away with this one (gorgeous as it is)! :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r:

Image

Has to be an RNZAF livery (obviously) but any of the many locations that the C-130s have visited over the 60yrs should be fine <_<

That's an awesome thing to do for the old workhorse.

Not the greatest of shots, but here's a C-130 over Herald Island (near Whenuapai):

Ahhh Herald Island, my first 'living off" address...on the terrace, after being posted to AKL.
I think it was around 1977/78...a waterfront place for $30.00 a week(Top dollar back then)....three bedrooms and a garage....and 5 smelly young Airmen with a dog.
What could go wrong

It's all wall-to-wall houses now ... and Hobsonville is now one massive housing estate.

We're in Birkenhead, so at least I still get to hear the C-130s when they do circuits and bumps - always a treat!

You might just make it into RWY21 from there - but the the SH18 bridge does need a little help, for sure.

Actually I cry foul on this competition:
I suspect you two are the only owners of this plane in NZ, if not the World. :D
There is only one solution to this.

Why it's obvious!
Take scissors to the banner, and plant that first shot as a tribute in the month it belongs (February)
This is my last word on the banner thing, I have previously gotten into a lot of trouble with this kind of malarky B-)

OK, we can't leave those two hanging .. and just to show there's SOME legs left in P3D :P here's a shot of the farewell fly-past down the West coast of the North Island (bonus point to anyone who can identify the harbour). Sadly the route didn't include a buzz over Hamilton and we were on the wrong coast to make a trip over for it -_-

I was in the garden yesterday when all three C-130s flew over. Very low - and desperately trying to get into formation after take-off. Awesome!!!!

So .. that prompted a screenshot session - in PNG:

Thanks! I'm sorry to say I CHEATED  ... I paused the sim then used slew mode to position the aircraft, popping into outside view periodically to check.

However - once the pic was taken, I unpaused it and flew it along the runway - that was fun! I turned round and managed to land it. It's an amazing aircraft!

How do you slew ?
I can "teleport"in 2020 , but its not the same as the good old FSX slew mode.(2020 can only go up)
Helicopters (for me anyway) teleport down  ......its a weird thing man.... B-)

Adamski,

That is very very impressive screenshot taking technique WITHOUT WITHOUT WITHOUT using Photoshop. Although I published millions of screenshots on various flight sim forums past 17 years, your screenshot technique is TOTALLY NEW to me and I have not heard of that trick before!!! The other screenshot technique I cannot figure out is how Splitpin manages to convert FSX screenshots into Kodak photographs. Your technique makes it second screenshot method I cannot figure out how to use. hahahaha
