The high and shiny one

Postby Splitpin » Mon Oct 13, 2025 2:16 pm

Just when I thought I was done with the 135...here is one more.
No paint kit for this one that I'm aware of...so this is all you get, which is a shame .

Nothing wrong with a natural metal finish. I think most of the A model were NMF.

NMF indeed, but not all flew in the nude.
Some (A models) wore the Arctic high viz bands.
@ JK, is that the Delta model in your shots ?

I'm looking for one aircraft in particular... 60-8885 from the 320th heavy bombardment wing , SAC, based at Mather AFB.
I was involved (crew transport) with that aircraft as a young airman during exercise Triad 84.

Yes, it is the Delta model, same as you showed.
As for your aircraft, do you have any pics? I couldn't find anything on 60-8885, but there was a 63-8885? No pics in bare metal though...

JK, I found a photo of the final flypast over Christchurch (Triad 84) ....but...more research needed I think.

JK...I think I've got it. The tail number was 63-8885, it was converted to an R model.
This is a photo of it was taken in 1981, I doubt it would have changed much in 3 years. It does appear (on the old photo) to have a tail band, but impossible to see it.
Obviously its not bare metal...not sure what shade of grey it was .

That's not an addition sitting over the cockpit...its a C-141 tail in the background.

Are you able to work your magic on this one? when and if you have time.
