Nowhere to hide

Postby Splitpin » Sun Nov 23, 2025 5:35 pm

Oh my goodness, what an age we live in.
Early last week my Visa/Debit card was compromised.....but bless the fraud team at BNZ who alerted me to the problem.
Long story short, I received not one , but two replacement cards in the mail.
(BNZ oversite)
Fast forward to today... I made a purchase on Orbx today....and prepared to update my payment details.
BUT!! At check out, the site already had the card details (both of them) !!!

I didn't even the know the details on the second one .... but Orbx did.....even the 3 digit security number.....WTH.

I had a similar experience earlier this year. I cancelled my Amazon Prime AU account becasue it wasn't worth having. They sent me an email to say the account was cancelled. Next month they charged my Visa CC again. I notified ANZ Bank and they reversed the transaction. The next month, same thing. ANZ said they would cancel the card and replace it, which they did and the new card was charged the following month. Next month, same rigmarole. And again... I asked the ANZ guy how Amazon were getting the details of the new cards when I was no longer their customer and apparently Amazon were keeping a record based on my ANZ customer number, and that gave them access to the details of my CC accounts.
I am quite sure that is illegal, and if it is not it certainly should be.
Anyway, with the third replacement card I lay in wait for them and disabled the card myself a few days before Amazon were likely to try defrauding me again. That produced another email saying my account had been cancelled because I missed a payment. Result!!! :D

Yes we must all have accepted something by default in the myriad "Read the Conditions" crap we get served up fro time to time.
I got a Wise debit card and only put money in there when I go visit the ORBX Black Friday sale!
Works a treat and I have flattened it again...

Charl, I use PayPal in the same way. My Paypal account is always empty, until I authorise a payment.
I have read some T&C documents but they need to treated as politicians' speeches - question every word to see what meaning is attached to it. Most of them are as tricky as Escher's best drawings.
