A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby captainherc » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:52 am

Following up on my last post on what to buy. Finally made the big decision and got the following.
Level D 767. CLS DC10 as always been a DC10 fan. FS2Crew. FS passenger. UK2000 scenery as well as already have all the NZ sceneryand VOZ. Now need to update computer specs. Thinking of uninstalling and starting from scratch so as can get out any bugs that have crept in since I first loaded FS9 and been adding A/C etc and not done it correctly. Does any one know the best place to get a yoke and min 3 throttle quadrant. Cheers.

Also WTH have you won Lotto or something

FS2Crew is very resource hungry so make sure you have a decent machine to run it, have fun sounds like some good add ons there.

Have been talking to my computer guy and with y existing system not that great am thinking of getting a dedicated FS9 computer. my current system when flying especially within the Uk using UK2000 the view outside the window jerks ans i fly along. So problem there. I have been looking over what Brownbox and HCP say about systems and am now awaiting a quote. Need to run the addons as previously mentioned and will be getting some more scenery CD's soon to add a swell. Will most likelt be sticking to flying the airecraft as purchased or the stock Fs stuff.
so this is what im going to run.
Level D 767.
CLS DC10
Overland Fly the sky World airliners
FS passengers
FS2crew
FS Navigator
All Robin Corns NZ scenery
NZ land class
VOS
UK2000 and Heathrow
and some extra European secenry and maybe Honk kong.

YO mister captainherc, with all your addons above , aim for a system that will do both , don't listen to your computer guy, unless person is a flightsim nutter , then your ok ! FS9 ..... still there , but no point since many addons are only going to FSX , ....... aim for a FSX PC , you then cant complain ... wicked FS9 and mmm FSX is great

Have you tried the new freeware 'egkkfreefs9.zip' released on 8th March 2008?

File Description:
UK2000 Scenery has introduced a new range of good quality add-ons that are totally FREE, these are designed for users on a budget, a slower PC or just what a basic scenery that is still miles better than the MSFS default. This is Gatwick for FS9. It includes AFCAD taxiways and aprons, remodelled airfield terrain, dozens of objects, detailed airport buildings and more. For extra high detail, visit UK2000 Scenery for 'Gatwick Xtreme'.

Thanks Spongebob.
I have seen these already. In my purchase I bought a DC10. I think im right in reading about these quadrants that I can programe them so all levers (throttle, mixture, propeller ) can be use as all throttles. Jet A/c do not use the rest. Other wise where do I get a throttle only quadrant. If this is correct then the yoke and quadrant for $289 is the one to get. Cheers.

DC10 :D My first overseas flight , whoops excuse me - return from into NZCH - NORTH WESTER cross wind , ... I had to get this model , there is no real FMC in a 10 but with your payware code can get a INS which is more to the era off this aircraft type , I grew up with their introduction and constant rotates and circles outta Christchurch in 1973 and with a good ANZ paint by ......Bonnie Belle Windsor ,
..................

FMC .. they practically land the plane for ya , least with the 10 , hands on smooth , and its history as a pilots plane

Is that the Saitek version? I suppose if you only need three throttles this would be alright.

If you get the CH products, they will be dearer however but you can fly twin prop aircraft as well as jets. I have not work it out yet, but apparently you can set up spare levers to use as air brakes etc.

Ch Quadrant comes with spare black knobs also to set up multi jet throttles.

Hope this helps you decision.

Cheers

Just like me Ian, I love flying the DC3 with none of the modern equipment. A-B tests of skill, especally VFR at Night.

These things are so COOL .... a DC10 was the 1st Jet I ever saw as a kid when we went to Auckland Airport to pickup (or see off) friends of my parents. I remember being WAY impressed with the thing. The tail engine is dinstinctive sure, but there was something just so cool about seeing one back then.

Gigabyte MA770-DS3 Motherboard
3G DDR2 Ram
500G Seagate Barracuda SATA Hard Drive
Gigabyte 8800GT Graphics Card
Pioneer 18 x dvd writer (SATA)
16 in 1 card reader
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Sound Card

Few Things-

Graphics Card and everything else looks pretty good. But I could suggest a few things about the Processor

AMD's are slower and dont preform as well as Intels for starters
Quad Cores are more for multi-tasking, not based on the same principle as Dual Core. Still works great, but its more expensive usally. I recommend you get something like an Intel E6850. Its one of the top preformers in FS2004, and its very, very cheap. Its the top of the E range at Intel. I think its about 3.25ghz or somthing like that, its also very very fast.
