Landing at DXB onboard the oh so glamorous Royal Brunei Airlines 767, en route from Auckland to London. Originally I had planned to use ANZ staff discount to fly to Europe for my Big OE, but couldn't pass on the discount to non family members meaning me and my mate had to find the cheapest alternative, so we booked ourselves the $2400 return tickets yesterday :)

via Brisbane, BSB, Dubai?

Sounds good Trolly. I hear Alcohol is BYO on Royal Brunei, not that it will matter...

Didn't ever think of going to Europe through Brunei.

That will be me (except in Istanbul (was going to be Dubai but Singapore was Cheaper than Emirates)) in just over one year (School trip. Going to Turkey, Germany, France, Belgium and England - although it isn't cheap!)

So you are going on a big OE. Will it be a Big OFE (Overseas Flying Experience)?

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Yep- a 27 hour trip all in all- nothing I can't handle though, I flew 36 hours non stop with Guarda once (Auckland, Brisbane, Bali, Jakarta, Frankfurt, London). And yep, its a Muslim airline so alc isn't served on board- perhaps why the tickets were so cheap! :lol: It's ironic how you are now allowed to bring guns or knifes onto the aircraft, but 40 ounce glass bottles full of spirts are permitted...

Wow, sounds like fun! How long is your trip going to be for, and what’s the purpose of that distant travel- an extensive geography lesson?

Well we are going to travel around a bit once we get there- definitely going to Germany but maybe also the Netherlands, France and Spain.. you know how cheap airfares are over there, I got £80 return tickets from London to Barcelona a few years back with Easyjet, but the Eurotunnel train is also fast and cheap. Whatever happens, I'll set up a blog here and post any pics I take whenever I have internet access :)

It's a History trip.

You should go to various aeroclubs and try and fly with them a couple of times in the different countries.

A big OE for me would be spending massive amounts of time in a Cessna or Piper (as well as shopping)

27Hours in a 767 sounds fun! Hopefully it isn't like some planes where they design the seats for smaller people (e.g. like an Air Asia 733 I went on. I was 12 and my head went over the seat (about 3/4 of a foot smaller than Air New Zealand)

Lucky guy, hope to see plenty of snaps from you- and yeah I've got some contacts at Shoreham which is the local GA airport from where I going to be staying in Brighton so hopefully I'll get to see some of British countryside from the air :P

I've been reading some reviews for Royal Brunei and apparently the 767's are decked out in a comfortable 2-4-2 seating arrangement with plenty of legroom. I'm average height and I've never had a problem with head room so it should be all good :thumbup:

2-4-2 being the standard 767 Config :P

I think you will find on these International Asian airlines, unlike Air Asia - just flying around SEA, are configured for the European traveller. Shouldnt be too much of a hassle at all!

:whoops: I knew that! Forgive me, the last time I flew on a 767 was four years ago with ANZ and they didn't even have personal seatback TVs!

Appox 5 months, got a return ticket for Decemeber 4th but can change that date (free of charge) to anywhere within a year of departure, so I'll just see how things go. If its really good, we might stay longer, or if we run out of $, I might be catching an early flight home!

That sure is the way to do it. And being English, I suppose you can work there too?

Correct me if im wrong, but fortunently, Royal Brunei have PTV's. Air NZ is also getting them late this year. You definently need it on such a long flight. You should have tried to get onto one of they're 777 Services from BSB to LHR.

I though AIr NZ had them on all international a/c except the 767's and A320's which are being installed

Yea, Ben means the Air NZ 767's are getting done to be completed later this year (as they were talking about 767's previously). :) :wink2:

4 out of 6 Boeing 767s have personal TV'S: V8-RBF/G/H/J. V8-RBL and V8-RBK don't.

Air NZs 767s are configured in a 2 3 2 seating arrangment.
Anyway when you go have fun and have a great time. Keep us updated of your travels and get loads of pictures of the flights.

I wouldnt be worrying too much. They probably fly the 2 aircraft that dont have them on the BSB-Singapore run or something like that

Yep, I'm working full time to save up spending money while I am there, but will be looking for a job for extra $ to travel around. Got many contacts around the place so it shouldn't be too hard to find work I'm told, especially in the Summer Holidays with all the student postions made available.

From wiki: Royal Brunei Airlines was to acquire Boeing 777 extended range aircraft on lease[7]. The first of four Boeing 777-200s for Royal Brunei rolled out from the paintshop in late April 2007, however the lease deal fell through.

Having searched A.net, all those reg aircraft can be found at Heathrow so I've got a 4/6 chance of decent inflight entertainment :fingerscrossed:

Oh, I had no idea! I read something on pprune about the 767 pilots having a cry about the transfered 777 pilots.

Im crossing my fingers for you too andrew, I hate not having IFE, especially on such a long flight!
