I was shown this by a workmate, no idea how strong the wind was but quite amazing to watch.

I heard reports of how it couple weeks back , BUT to see that .. EYEOPENER ... bit scary if someone was half way stepping on the 73 ......Opps ? .. mm yeah i don't think so

But then .. if it was so strong .. QANTAS 73 taking off in headwind ... why did the nose skew against it !

looking again .... conditions like the wind channeled - hit the main building ... WINDY WELLY for sure

I haven't seen it either. Just goes to show how strong wind can be, it can move a 40 ton aircraft. Maybe videos like this should be displayed in airports that are closed due to the weather? Then people that aren't as smart as some can see why they can't fly.

While trying to find that video for a quote, I found a couple of Pac Blue landings in Welly.

Yeah I thought I'd seen it before:

QUOTE
the reason the plane lifted was because a group of 40 in the last 40 seats decided to stay on the aircraft and dissembark as a group however the ground crew did'nt know this, as well as the gale force southerly hitting the tail
The answer Ian is pretty simple - the wind was acting on the tail of the plane not the nose. A bit of a worry for sure but then again depending on conditions the nosewheel isn't exactly taking too much weight.

So what happened after the video stops?

Did they push it back or just realign the airbridge?

yeah we pushed it back about 25mtrs then brought it back into the bay and re attached the bridge. but we made sure the passengers were all up the front this time smile.gif

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating why a Boeing 737 was blown away from an airbridge at Wellington airport.

It happened in June, but a video of the incident has just surfaced on YouTube.

It's been reported passengers were disembarking the Pacific Blue plane at the time strong winds blew it away, but no-one was hurt.

The video shows ground staff quickly moving away as the 40 tonne aircraft blows away, leaving a large gap between the aircraft and the airbridge, with a three-metre drop to the ground.

CAA spokesman Bill Sommer says if they are satisfied Pacific Blue has identified the cause of the accident and taken steps to ensure it doesn't happen again, it will not go any further.
Be interesting to see what they have to say
