Timmo - the waterclass I did is based on satellite imagery so it's pretty accurate. Lake Tekapo isn't darker in the middle. I've gone through the effort to do the complete coastline and all major lakes, so it's pretty accurate (within MSFS limits).

Cheers,
Christian

That was just a leftover from some waterclass effects I've been trying- It isn't actually the cloud shadow, it is just an area of darker/deeper water in the middle of the lake.

Because It is almost impossible to assemble hydrographic information for the inland lakes, I use a simple distance function to infer depths/colours (i.e. I assume it will be deeper/darker blue at the edges, shallower/lighter blue at the edges). In that shot I hadn't quite assigned the colour ramp properly so there is a large area of darker/deeper water in the middle which happens to line up with the cloud.

Im hoping to obtain proper hydrographic information for the coastal areas because, as you may know, hydrography isn't as simple as a distance/depth relationship- Some parts of the coast stay shallow for a large distance from shore, some drop right off.
Breathtakingly gorgeous FS landscapes for New Zealand.

Yea, the water is very opaque in those lakes (having rowed on Ruataniwha), and the colour is usually pretty consistent throughout. winkyy.gif

Hello everyone- I've been working on the Chatham Islands for the last little while so I thought I'd post some results.....I basically ended up excluding ALL the default data and starting from scratch- New 15m terrain, new shoreline plus all the usual goodies including a few library objects for the 'port'.

So this is what you get 'out of the box' in default FSX:

With a bit of magic, it turns into this:

The Airport- (although this upgrade won't specifically include Airports, the accuracy of the data and our manual tweaking process means that airports will look better anyway: Grass will be where it should be, trees won't be where they shouldn't)

The Port

Ill keep the updates coming smile.gif

Wow, did you to the port manually?

Yep- Just a few placed library objects in a seperate Bgl. Nothing too fancy but it looks kind of dead without them.

That's certainly a massive improvement on the default "jungle" Chathams.
