I can see it from the view of 'arming a nation with deadly weapons' but come on, most if not all nations on the earth have 'deadly weapons'. Besides, any nation with a big military isn't going to necessarily want some old skyhawks to do battle with, especially against some of the more modern fighters and anti air systems.
In any case, if they're sold to private collectors, I just hope 1 or 2 stay here in NZ.
The US state department only has to authorise the sale of american made products ie the Skyhawks and the APG-66 radar thats fitted into it. We had the same problem when we tried to dispose of the old NZ Army M113 armoured personell carriers. They had to sell them for scrap in the end because the US State dept wouldnt allow us to sell them to collectors or another military.

Well if that's the case maybe we should sell them to the Israelis, I can't imagine there would be any objects - after all that's where most US military hardware ends up...........' Have you ever notice that the experts who decree that the age of the pilot is over are people who have never flown anything? In spite of the intensity of their feelings that the pilot's day is over I know of no expert who has volunteered to be a passenger in a non-piloted aircraft..'

Heh heh. Yes, as long as it's hard to spot it's fine.
Someone obviously forgot to tell her corrosion on an aircraft is not like a car. She probably found it hard to find because she was looking for spots of rust around the windscreen.
I know for a fact that the latex came off over winter and plenty of water leaked into the cockpits damaging the avionics.
Change the party and same result. A politician full of it.

Pathetic, isn't it? I can understand a U-turn based on new information (ie. some new customers) but how the Skyhawks "magically" impoved their condition should have been challenged. We get what we deserve, and when the media allow politicians to make it up as they go, renege on election promises etc. then our democracy is that much the poorer. No point in having fancy Skyhawks to defend our democracy if it falls apart because our media is brain-dead.
