It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2009 Royal New Zealand Air Force Air Show and Open Day at Base Auckland.

This year’s Air Show includes an exciting programme of ground and air activities which I hope will give you the opportunity to see up close our air operations, the support behind those operations, and most importantly to meet and talk with the men and women of the RNZAF who are all very proud of the important role they play in protecting our national interests.

I also hope you will gain an understanding of the extraordinary range of activities your Air Force is involved in at home and abroad.

Many of you will be aware that it is an exciting time for the RNZAF with all our aircraft either undergoing a significant upgrade or replacement. As part of that upgrade I invite you to view the newly upgraded Boeing 757 on display here today—it is a unique military strategic airlifter and we are proud of the utility it will offer New Zealand in the future.

I would also like to acknowledge our allied Air Forces who are supporting our show today—the US Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia. Also supporting us today are the Warbirds Association, Air New Zealand, Eurocopter and Nato Helicopter Industries. We thank them for their contribution to a successful Open Day along with all of our other valued partners.

thanks for info. Guys just a small question to those who have been previous years. Which runway will be in use(03-21 or other), and where public area(spectators) will be?

Well that will depend on the wind I would imagine they would prefer 03/21 due to the position of the main apron and access to the base.

A pdf download - ground display map has been added to the RNZAF open day website
the display line looks to run down 03/21 with the car park & warbird generally located the area of the other runways.

Air New Zealand will be displaying their biofuel engine and the Rolls-Royce Trent engine from the Boeing 777

Both of them arrived to Whenuapai today

ANZ 777's are gonna be at the Whenuapai??? This is gonna be the best airshow ever!

I've been seeing lots of light aircraft out and about practicing today- the Harvards have been out in formations from Ardmore, and I saw the Red Checkers fly over East Auckland twice in a tight V shape twice this arvo. Looking forward to Saturday heaps- the weather forceast even looks good: 23 degrees high with a scattered cloud base. Perfect for photography!

No, only engine. RR bio and GE90. Today ive seen P3, after 2 Red Checkers(RC), C130 after parachute team, few helicopters flights, then 2 Orions+757+C130 and C17. After were 6 RC and something like Cessna+planer

That was something else! I was watching from Akarana on Tamaki drive, looking at them doing some massive loops by Devonport

I drove past there early this afternoon. There was a solitary airtrainer doing dives, loops, and swoops over the aerodrome. Plus all the aircraft on the tarmac.

About 4.45pm a lone F-18 was putting on a massive show for the onlookers, with some amazing stunts and a few low flyovers, the noise was deafening to say the least, and people in the crowed on the side of the road, could help but look at each other in amazement as this beast wowed us, truly amazing.

...And the Yaks arrived into Ardmore today- approached the airfield lined up one after the other, flew a few circuits- last I saw they were doing touch and go's one at a time.

Really looking forward to this one- gonna have to leave East Auckland pretty early to get out West before the traffic sets in!

Hey guys, that was a good day out i think, bit of a drive up and back from Tauranga but i think well worth it. Ill try and get some pics up soon, just gotta let the Mags and papers take their pick first.
