Whoops, forgot to pass this email on:

Dear Andrew, on January 12, 2008 Carenado has released one of the most successful and mass produced light aircraft in the aviation history . The C172N Skyhawk II for FSX.

As all our previous FSX aircraft, this one was also developed using:

* NURBS modeling techniques
* High resolution textures resulting in a photorealistic representation with very friendly FPS performance. All the textures have fine tune alpha calibrations of whites for the bloom lights.
* A polygon optimized procedure

All of this plus FSX and DX10 features like cast shadows on VC, external dynamic cast shadows, normal mapping, specular mapping and bloom lights, resulting in a superior representation of this aircraft.

The company hopes this product covers the demand of the community for a good representation of C172 that people are demanding since a long time.

They've told me the FS2004 version will be out in a few days too.

Can someone tell me if there are individual textures for each side of the fin/rudder?
I asked their support guys but their english isn't too good and their answers didn't make a whole lot of sense unsure.gif

Thanks Naki.

According to Chris they do use mirrored textures - not only for the fin, but also for most of the model, so almost all NZ repaints will be impossible.

It's a shame really. The model looks fantastic, it sounds like it flies really well, but it is let down yet again by Carenado's amateur approach to texturing.
For a model of this calibre, and this price, cutting corners like this just doesn't make sense.

They just don't get it... if they just spent a little bit of time doing some research they would realise that completely mirrored paint schemes are almost non-existent in the real world.

I would have loved to work on a whole raft of kiwi schemes for this one, but they've effectively killed its 'repaintability' stone dead.

Dissappointing... again... angry.gif

on January 29th, 2009 Carenado released the C172N Skyhawk II for FS2004 as promised. The decision was taken after many emails from customers demanding us to make that aircraft compatible with FS2004.

The product has superior textures and the 3D model has an excellent relationship between polygons and details, soft curves and excellent FPS allowing a smooth performance.

This aircraft is a special package which was made exclusively for FS2004.

Dear Andrew, on May 6th, 2009 Carenado released the C172N Skyhawk II SKI for FSX.

This aircraft is a standalone package (It isn’t an extension pack for our previously released C172N).

This product was developed only for FSX taking advantages of all the FSX and DX10 features like cast shadows on VC, external dynamic cast shadows, normal mapping, specular mapping and bloom lights, resulting in a high quality aircraft.

Yeah, there are many paints I'd like to do but the mirroring can be a major issue, wish they would fix that. Cheers.
