yea, the problem with that though is that 50% of people will always be below average, there would never be an overall "everybody is awesome" possibility. the other problem with education, from a students point of view, is too much emphasis on "take notes, study, and get good grades or you will be homeless" and slim-to-none on getting people genuinly interested in the subjects. more interaction is needed. field trips for every subject should be compulsary. having classes outside for a change would make it alot more enjoyable. thats why people wag - they hate school because it is "boring" and "thier teachers suck" etc.

[/rant]

hahaha, just like half of all people make up 50% of the worlds population LOL

it makes no sense... what is it... an Oxymoron

its not an oxymoron at all. instead of a sliding scale where 50% of people a guaranteed to FAIL, a defined pass MARK for specific PAPERS is much better as it opens up the possibility for all people (not matter how far-fetched) to pass.

QUOTE
ox·y·mo·ron (ŏk'sē-môr'ŏn', -mōr'-)
n. pl. ox·y·mo·ra (-môr'ə, -mōr'ə) or ox·y·mo·rons
A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist.[/quote]

half and 50% are synonyms. I might have failed english essays but i know when im right and when im wrong.

lolololol ok then smarty pants

my paragraph had nothing todo with education, was merely a post remarking on the funny side of half of all people make up 50% of the world population.

this isnt an english lesson and i hope it never turns into one. that is why i never do capitals on any of my forum posts (this rages some people, who shall remain nameless, just a bonus really tongue.gif) as the forums to me are a getaway not an after school tutor

The system doesn't work either. I remember the last year I was in school, I got so sick and was probably only there for 1/4 of it, done about 3 tests. Now at the end of the year when I got my results, I was surprised as any that I was marked as passing the classes. I passed the tests I done sure enough, but whats to say if I was there the whole year that I failed every other one? I got the certificate/letter saying that I passed, but no where on it did it say that they had to mark me on a single test. So really, if I was the sort of person, I could go to a job interview, tell them I passed that year and know about 'X' subject, when really I wouldn't know squat about it. Where's the fairness in that when you have someone else applying for the same job, who did all the tests and passed and got 90% on their end of year cert, because they had to be marked on all their tests. Whereas I would only have been marked on 2 or 3, got 100% on all 3 and that's what would end up on my end of year cert?

I get what 2fst4u is saying about the people who don't stick around. I found it incredibly hard to learn things with book work, and a lot of the time it was only in my head for that day. But put me in a situation where it's hands on and I only need to be shown once what to do, and it's in my head forever.

exactly. all i've learnt in english this year is on a poster. a quote from confucius

"i hear and i forget,
i see and i remember
i do and i understand"

why the teacher doesnt impliment this strategy is foreign to me

No English!!! I thought that was compulsory at most schools, let alone for most jobs.

the thing is, having english at level 3 is better than having it at level 2. eg, joining the air force, they'd prefer someone with level 3 english than someone with level 2 english (provided all other quals were pretty much the same and the person wasnt an absolute muppet tongue.gif ) also i failed all the english externals last year so im gonna try hard to get the level 3 equivalents this year - it just looks better on your records biggrin.gif

lol this can not be more; "non flightsim related", or "off topic"
But I guess i can do my bit, next year im taking:
L3:Calculus
Physics
English
Geography
and for the last option its a toss up between statistics or chemistry. On one side, stats is waay easier but every single stats teacher at my school is rubbish and should have retired 30 years ago (seriously!) and then on the otherside, chem is super super hard in L3 but i like it much better winkyy.gif

from what i gather, one maths is more than good enough. you'd blow your mind doing stats AND calc. its nice to get a good spread smile.gif

"More than good enough" depends on what career path he wants winkyy.gif

I take Calc and Stats and it's not that bad. Stats is really easy and I'm not exactly the brightest at my school..

How things have changed... when I finished School 50 years ago they TOLD you what subjects you had to do and now they let you decide what you want to do :-)

Cheers

Hmm I probly will go for the stats option, its an easy but good skill to have I guess where chem won't help me at all in the future, I would just be doing it for the heck of it...I guess I still have a while to decide smile.gif

Just remember if you get a degree or diploma or whatever in Aviation , this completly sits on top of your school results and airlines doin't care about your school results if you have a Level 7 NZQA Qualification or higher, without this though you really need Level 3 in order to have a good chance of getting in.
I'm leaving at the end of six form and doing an Aviation course that will get me a NZQA Level 7 Qualification so getting Level three isn't a bonus to me.

But if you are wanting to join the airforce as a pilot, the higher the better I have been told. Only the best of the best get in so the higher NCEA marks you get the more chance of getting in.

Yea but I wanna get into Massey to do BAv, and they care about L3 marks, They reckon a minimum is L3Physics, Calc, Eng and highly recomended is Geo(according to the uni site and undergraduate prospectus). Stats might just top it off to 'spoof' it up a bit, I hope.
I reckon if I do chem it will 'undermine' the marks that I could be getting in the more important subjects because of the huge workload in chem.
I'm not stressing about it, apparently uni's really look at your L2 marks and i've been getting straight Excellences all year(so far anyway) so I should be fine

I do Level 3 chem, its not that hard as long as you stay on top of it. It's easier than Calculus by a long shot, but harder than physics.
