Rearranging the admin team...

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby toprob » Wed Oct 28, 2009 12:48 pm

You may be aware that both Trolly and Alex are not able to participate much in administering the forum, due to other commitments. Because I am getting busy myself, I've begun to put together a new admin team.

First, I'd like to welcome Naki to the admin team. Naki has moderated a number of sub-forums for some time, and shown to have all the attributes of a good administrator -- mainly the ability to remain calm under fire:)

We are looking for one other administrator, ideally with enough technical skills to maintain the forum software, OR people skills to arrange the screenshot competition. Either/or -- you will need to choose one!

Other requirements are:
  • Maturity -- this really means 'middle-aged';
  • Calmness -- if you have ever blown up at someone you don't know on the web, then it probably isn't for you;
  • Aloofness -- your job is to help members come together, rather than take sides;
  • Plenty of time on your hands -- if you work full-time, then you may not have the reserves to do the job.

Administration requires a number of skills, the most difficult process is dealing with conflict, breaches of rules and member arbitration. You will receive some guidelines on how to do the job based on our experiences, but then it would be entirely up to you to administer as you see fit. Part-judge, part jury is a good way to think of it.

Please contact me via the forum if you are interested. Give it some real thought -- read through the requirements, and rate yourself honestly. This is a big commitment.

Current moderators are welcome to apply, as you are already doing part of the job.

Thanks for all the votes, folks ... I certainly fit the "mature" category sad.gif ... though I'm not quite into the *old age* bracket (just yet, I don't think) laugh.gif

However ... my main *work* is web development (sedentary/PC based), my main *fun* being flight sims (SAD or what <?>, but also sedentary) means I have to try limiting the number of hours sat at a VDU - to keep in with SWMBO and for health reasons.

Much as I'd like to help NZFF, I'm a bit worried about taking on too much. I've run community sites/forums/competition ladders in the past and (though great fun) they can really soak up the time.

I could certainly cope with the monthly screencomps (as long as I can still enter!!) - particularly as I have all the necessary graphic apps (and I'm also a graphic designer). I could cope with something else on top of that - as long as its not too horrendous.

Knowing what we know about Rob(in) I suspect he's in a similar position time/healthwise. i dread to think how many hours Godzone scenery takes up!

I just want to put myself "out there" as a fairly experienced technical guy.

I've worked with IPB and customizing IPB for 4 or so years and have a great knowledge of Html, CSS, and my favourite (and mosdt skillful) PHP.

I don't think you'd want me as an admin (not active enough etc), but if you ever need some help with the back end, or IPB in particular, I'm happy to help.
