Bristol Superfreighter - Assistance needed!

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby nigelhj » Sun Sep 13, 2009 8:56 am

Hello, this is my very first post and hope I am using the correct Thread.

I found your site through a link concerning the Bristol Freighter being developed for FSX, I am a member of a British Flight Sim Forum whos members produce Classic Aircraft such as the Trident - BAC1-11 - Comet -VC10 - Argosy - HS748 -Viscount - Dove and too many others to mention.

Basically the reason for my post is that one of our members has, for the past couple of years, been developing a Bristol Superfreighter for FS9 with 2D Cockpit (no plans for a VC for the forseeable future) The aircraft is coming along extremely well but no date set for its' release as there is still much work to do.

One thing that is presently missing are the cockpit views i.e. when looking left or right - forward right and left views - looking back left and right etc. from the left hand seat.

Having seen some of the photographs taken of the Bristol Freighter by members I would very much hope that some-one here may be able to offer assistance in obtaining the necessary photographs from inside the cockpit. I appreciate that it is very much dependant on the goodwill of those who own the Bristol Freighter in allowing access and taking the pictures however I have been trying various organisations for the past 9 months without much success and seeing that this aircraft is in full working condition everything would be very much in place as if it were still flying, i.e. instruments, condition of the flight deck.

I know that the cockpit layout on the Superfreighter is very different to that of the Freighter itself but unfortunately there are very few around the world and it is very much a case of getting as near as to what is available.

Should any member be able or willing to help I would appreciate if you could let me know here or via PM. Obviously any help given will mean that credits to this Flight Sim Community, the owners of the freighter and persons providing photographs will be given in the credits when this is released.

Garry Russell has very kindly lent me the Beta version of the Bristol Superfreighter and also given permission for me to make a video so that you can see what progress has been made, incidentally this video has not been made for public viewing ie You Tube as no release date has yet been made due to a heavy workload on other projects.

Because my soundcard is only a cheapo I would suggest that treble be turned off and bass on full - please note the sounds are only temporary.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Nigel and Welcome all CBFS members

I have many photos that will be of help , taken by myself , Robin Corn and Gary Elliot , the cockpit of the Bristol Freighter in the Wigram Museum , this aircraft is the military variant . The Bristol in Woodbourne , the SAFE AIR civil variant , we may be able to get required photos , Gavin Conroy , well known Aviation photographer has taken many photos of this aircraft now running by the expert hands of Alister Marshall , obviously you would have seen , I will PM Gavin ask if maybe could photo the required views , in the mean time i will search out my collection .

To Peter , great little movie , I did see two RNZAF Bristol,s in formation , heck that was the early 70's

To Gary , animation .. I just loved the crossing of the threshold - waiting in anticipation for the touchdown

Cheers Ian

Ian, very many thanks for your warm welcome, I had not mentioned our Forum in case it was thought I was advertising but obviously it appears that you have heard of us from somewhere!! biggrin.gif

I would indeed welcome your offer of help and so will all who are closely involved in this project, I did fail to mention though you should by now be aware that the Superfreighter will be freeware.

This Superfreighter flies beautifully, very slow and has a lazy feel about her when turning. You will not be disappointed when she eventually leaves the production line. Incidentally the a/c sounds from the video are temporary for testing purposes and are by Henry Follas, something which I failed to mention earlier.

Ian, regarding the photographs, if Gavin is willing and able to undertake this project I will post some photographs so that it will help him achieve the desired positions for 2D view though have to say that he probably knows this already!! unsure.gif

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Kind regards

Nigel.

I believe CBFS s aircraft ,so many cool.gif are almost a bedstead for the many here at NZFF , Viscounts , 748's to the exotic - wink and a Devon , advertising .. I think your shop was sold out many years ago smile.gif .

As yet have not PM Gavin , i do no the shots you are looking for , the typical keypad views but in perspective to position and scale , i did the 2D photo shoot with this mind , my camera let me down least in what i consider a good result .

Hi Ian, I do not have anything to do with any developments on a/c that these chaps do (only volunteered to do a virtual tour around the globe for these cockpit view photographs as Garry is too busy) but have to say that when downloading an aircraft my wish list is that of a realistic flight deck and theirs is the benchmark that I hope for. Or probably I am being a little too bias?

I apologise if I have given the impression of trying to teach 'to suck eggs' regarding positioning of camera, it was not meant in that way at all, should have known better as you already are aware of what views you get from 2D cockpit views!!:whoops:

Kind regards
Nigel.

Many thanks Ian, this is really appreciated, I look forward to further updates especially whether Gavin is able and willing to assist. Even then, there is absolutely no rush for these photographs....plenty of time before its release.

Kind regards
Nigel.

Hi Ian, very many thanks also from me. Did not wish to ask just yet as appreciate that you may very well have been busy with other things.

I have forgotten to mention that the Bristol Superfreighter will run in FSX but as yet still undergoing Beta Testing.

Again, very many thanks.

Regards
Nigel.

Yes

it does run in FS.X.

Some have the usual prop disc cutting out clouds or some scenary, others seem not to get that at all.

I've not run it myself in FS.X but whereas some see those same things with my Canadair CL-44 I have run that in FS.X and get no cutting out of the clouds or at least didn't before my PC went down and left me having to rebuild all that. Not tried since unsure.gif

Hi Blake

Thanks..The Viscount and 748 were by Rick and the Dove by Derek. I have done nearly 200 paints for the Viscount and did a lot for the 748 project although Rick did the NZ paints.

The Supefreighter is a bit in the background as I recover form a serious operation which prevents me from sitting at the PC and the Laptop can't handle the project as it is too big. I have been continuing with the Britannia/CL-44 project although that is getting big too.

The F.27 hasn't been forgotten and it is a possibility sometine but it just that we all have projects on the go.

Some CL-44D4 shots

YUkon in very early temp textures

Hi Blake, just to add to this as you mentioned the Dove, Derek will be releasing another De Havilland Classic some time soon, maybe in the New Year and that will be the Heron, already in advanced stage of testing it will certainly be one to look out for.

Regards
Nigel.

Due to real World issues I can’t see me continuing with the Superfreighter for a while yet

So…….I’ve decided to release a WIP package

Five liveries on three models…..

G-AMWA in delivery colours

G-ANWG Very early Silver City

G-AMWE in standard early BUAF

G-ANWN wears the last BUAF livery

G-AMLP was one of four survivors to wear the BAF livery based on it’s BUAF livery.

Availiable from the CBFS File Library FS9 & FS.X Portover

Thanks guys biggrin.gif

Ian

Have a relaxing day flying this then smile.gif

I promise you..you won't be going anywhere fast biggrin.gif

TVACGCEO

The Yukon is far from finished and not released in any form. The CL-44 D4 is the most advanced of the project but again is still nowhere neer finished.

The film you may of seen of the Yukon is of an earlier WIP and so much has chaned since the model no longer exists....I think everything has bee upgraded since and it was wering a quick rough tempory texture.....it wasn't even mapped properly at that time. The pafrts from the D4 will be brought over the the Yukon and modded with the Yukons different rear fuse, tail and nose section.

The CL-44 like the Freighter has large cockpit windows (D4) and freight doors (Swing tail on the D4) meaning that just for the exterior mode,l interior parts need to be added. I recently added 56 parts to the interior of the D4 with more to make still. blink.gif
