C47 Retiring

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I was fortunate to catch one of the last flights on ZK-AMY before it goes into retirement, when it visited Wanaka this week.
This is the last operational one in the south Island.
I would add some pic's if I knew how.

Ive been on AMY many times , thrice in the Jumpseat , the first couple was when she flew cargo , another out off Wanaka , ... AMS was my last ride on a Dak again in the Jumpseat again out off Wanaka , Alister Johnson at the helm and Dave the copilot , mention this before , but the way they studied the sky , checked the map and decided the best way around a front .. the DC3

They gave a speech before we got onboard & it sounded fairly definite.

Hmmm I don't know about that. I've recently started flying the darn thing and and no body has mentioned any retirement to me. Unless it's a very sudden thing, which could happen I guess, but I sure hope not sad.gif

QUOTE
Over the last few months we have completed a DC-3 ground course and type rated and trained several new pilots to fly the DC-3. Likewise we have continued to train and clear for line flying several new flight attendants. We are busy with regular city scenic flights and have completed several corporate charter flights. Our 0800 DC3 FLY campaign has been hugely successful with our signs being seen in some high profile and interesting places!

We continue to focus on our goal to keep the Southern DC3 as an operational example of our New Zealand aviation heritage. Many such aircraft are no longer flying and to think that we can keep this iconic aircraft operating in our southern skies is a great accolade to our supporters. Special thanks goes to the Christchurch City Council, Ashburton District Council and the Read Trust who have made significant donations towards the purchase cost of the DC-3 and our 6 yearly heavy maintenance inspection.[/quote]

If anything, all that newsletter does is confirm that they want to keep her flying smile.gif
