I will be mounting onto a mixture of perspex (acrylic) and some of the predrilled pcb board from dick smith etc as required, for some of the more complicated boards I may try some of the 'print your own' kits also from dick smiths or jaycars.

check out the open cockpits site shop and on the stepper or servo board there is an example of an RMI made out of 3 stepper motors - this will give you some idea of where I am headed now.
I have decided to make my instruments myself and program with SIOC.

cheers

thanks towerguy, i have found the board s at dicksmith. it is a cheaper way to go for the instruments, as the simkits and others are very very expensive.

on another note, the opencockpits usb expansion and the mastercard have arrived, i will start building them over the next few days. SOIC looks like a really good and powerful program, i have only breifly looked at it, but reading other posts loks like it can do almost anything you need to program.

Hi All
It's been sometime since I last updated my MD500 simulator so here we go
Two new items arrived from the fabricator today and the project has now stepped up a gear. Its been about 2 years since I started with the shell of a hughes 300 so the door frames will be a big step in nearing completion of the cockpit fabrication

Next step is the nose and lower rib sections

I have had to cut my TA4 project down to only the front seat to fit my new living accomodations (long tedius story) so I have some spare bits and pieces left over... So.. if anyone wants an MDF Escapac project to complete... free to a good home smile.gif It is just the basic construction, in MDF, needs a bunch of work, but would make a good start to any sort of fighter cockpit, or even a funky, if quite heavy, office chair smile.gif And that's not all, the first caller will get not only the seat, but a free, complimentary foam cushion! Pickup only, in Christchurch.....

As I rummage through the boxes there may be more stuff to come! As well as a proper update on my sim building over the past few months!

Looks good Sean. thumbup1.gif ...and Looks like youv'e made Mr W happy as well. Oddly enough, i was doing a kind of stocktake yesterday in the store, prior to moving lots of things....and came across 2 A4 panels, and a Macchi......all the bits are removed and elsewhere in boxes, but i thought about asking if i could make a template from them for future use....as a sim panel....or just for decoration.

This Baron is really happening! Please forgive my vulgarity in asking the obvious- How much spent so far and how much projected for completetion?
Not just being nosy, it helps the rest of us plan our own and see if we are being realistic with those plans.
My own very generic sim is proper chair for the Capt and a single bed for the 1st officer, 3 machines, each with dual monitors over network and the 3 CH Products controls and a Saitek Cyborg for Helo and stick flying.

I feel like I've already spent enough already but it just never stops does it? Always something else on the wishlist.
I got an old 87 bus, 30 ft long with tinted windows to set it all up in. ATR size I guess, just a square profile instead of round/oval.
Very much a work in proress that will take some years yet and some money too untill it's looking the part. I can see already that it will never be finished however, as there will always be something to do on it- even if it may look finished to the casual observer.

You will deserve a medal when its all up and running, for your commitment, time and money and family neglect! Remember that last one- I would rather not hear in time to come that it has cost you your family too!

Up the irons \m/

I know that feeling! I've done a little of late, mostly around building the room for the sim to live in... not very exciting, but very VERY important smile.gif
I too will be posting pics, just as soon as I get around to taking some.
