Wow, the results weren't what I was expecting, but I really shouldn't be surprised. Time marches on!
As a long term simmer I still use FS9 most of my simming, mainly thanks to FSNav (totally the same reasons as Fozzer) and various paywares I have purchased over the years. Plus my aging computer runs it better. So since 80% of my flying is in airliners IFR, I might as well be in FS9. Can't see the ground anyway!
However, I still really love FSX for certain things. And now "WOW" with VLC I won't fly GA in NZ ever again on FS9 - well maybe just in the Aeroworx King Air laugh.gif
While I do have a very modest system, I can still get enjoyment from both sims and am happy to have both flyable.

Intel Core 2 Duo 6400, 4gb RAM, 7950GT 512mb GFX, FS9.1, FSX Gold + Acceleration.

I occasionally fire up my copy of FSX, but as soon as I realise that I am completely lost without my FS Nav running at the same time, sad.gif I lose all interest, and go back to my FS 2004... notworthy.gif ...!

My on-line FSX (and FS 2004) Chums are always surprised that I know exactly where they are, and what they are doing, during the Sessions. Every one on the Server appear in real time on the moving map, together with their identification!... ninja.gif .... laugh.gif ...!

It is ideal for locating remote airfields anywhere in the World, and obtaining the accurate GPS Map detailing the Airfield layouts, fuel pump locations, and Radio Beacon Frequencies....

It is perfect for generating VFR and IFR Flight Plans.

FS Navigator is one of those unique add-on programs, like VOZ, etc, for spicing up the Flight Sims!

So many benefits!

Many of the On-line Flyers are still using their FS 2004 together with FS Nav.

I have no doubt, that if FS Navigator had been re-programmed to run on FSX, I would now be using FSX every day...
...but at the moment, for me, its FS 2004 and FS Nav, all the way!... thumbup1.gif ...!

Paul....G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav... cool.gif ...!

Can't recall what the earlier poll said...hang on here it is:

and 2010 shows a big shift to FSX by comparison.

If I interpret those numbers correctly...
If you talk FSX, about 90% of NZ simmers will take note.
For FS9, about 40%.

If you're selling payware...
No less than 60% may buy for FSX, and no more than 40% will look at FS9.
That'd be why most payware is developed for FSX, but the likes of Aerosoft scoop the smaller percentage as well, with dual FSX/FS9 sceneries.

FSX, because... I have it.

Addicted to the smoooth multiplayer flight experience.

No lag, brilliant for formation stuff.

And no... do not have a real high spec puter.

Also being addicted to VFR bush flying, don't need or use FS nav... GPS or whatever.

Fly mainly OZ with FTX and OZX scenery.

Waiting for FTX NZ, so I can do the same in NZ.

Like looking outa da windows and figuring out where I am

Cheers thumbup1.gif

Why wait for FTX NZ when NZ VLC is already available and every bit as good as any FTX scenery if not better than FTX thumbup1.gif New_Zealand_etc.gif

You could argue all day about that and there would be no winner. We certainly will be spoilt for choice and that will be great. Just use what ever turns you on.

I asked around for a year or 2 whether there was such a thing as a 'flight simulator'available. It was kind of an instinctive quest in a way.I had all my 'dinky'airplanes as a child so I guess I wanted to play a grown up version!!.Finally a year or so ago I stumbled upon FSX.At that stage I thought I would just be flying a plane over a small highly detailed"ficticious'area, but it didnt take me long to realise that it was a simulation involving realworld terrain.I was astounded at that, and knew that I would be playing this game for a life time.Yay! I can play pilots again!!.
FSX for me had always been, having sliders right down, with no autogen etc,but I still enjoyed it alot. When I did try to max things up,it simply seized up,and I mean completely.Enter FS9.
I read on the forums that alot of people were using the younger brother of FSX,so I decided to go out and get a copy.
Man oh man!!! Terminals, houses, trees, moving waves! All running smoothly on my old beast. It was such a novelty.I still had FSX in my rig,but when it came time to SIM,my hand would always drag the mouse over the FS9 icon!!.
I chopped and changed preferences for a while,as FSX still has a terrain even in default, that can serve as a educational tool in learning about the world around you,but I have found that the key to this problemis just getting a good mesh into FS9.
FSX is sitting in my cupboard now,and out of my computer.I still think FSX is fundamentally better, its just that with the computer I have got its not able to shine for me yet.Im on the verge of getting a new rig,but I think I will wait to see what this new sim is all about"Microsoft flight'.Spec wise.
FS9 is serving me well,as I say with a good mesh,a few addons it can almost lift its game up to FSX,even on a humble computer like mine.
