Wings Over Wairarapa 2011

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

From another forum - Apparently three jets landed line astern in rainy weather. First the vampire which blew a tyre a fair way down the runway and ran off side of runway, but all ok. The second jet, an L-39 pulled up short as a result. Third jet, the Venom came in too low and landed before the threshold and broke the gear, resulting in a belly slide 150-200m or so down the runway. Not the best start, but at least no injuries or writeoffs.

What is it with Hood?

Suppose the weather was contributing this time.

Not nice to have so many incidents , cause concern from aviation officials , bloody pity for airshow organizers .

weather is very average here today, rained quite a bit in the night. Minimal wind now but cloud base at 2500ft roughly. Bugger...

At least the last three WAW made up for 2002 Ian clapping.gif I remember the rain, what a pain that was, especially as I was working there for it mad.gif I was also at the last WOW and the first day was good, then it got a bit overcast on the second, but otherwise it was still a great airshow for its size and I had a lot of fun, albeit the '37 Lloyds Carrier I had volunteered to drive for the vintage vehicle display decided to pack up and required a tow off the runway verge blush.gif . I would have still gone this year if I was in the NI as it is a great little show nonetheless, and a damn side cheaper than Wanaka winkyy.gif

Lets hope that Sunny Blenheim turns it on for us at Easter thumbup1.gif

very loud bang when the Vampires tire blew - and yeah Deaneb is right, Vampire ended up in a ditch (flying again the next day) and the Venom ended up by the control tower on its belly And the poor L-39 pilot was trying to dodge everything.
They dragged the Venom over to the other side of the airport and covered it with camo netting on Saturday morning

biggrin.gif Ripping around the airfield in an old Bren gun carrier , you guys and your war games during the shows are brilliant , had a 'Vintage Arms display' at Pioneer Stadium 4/5 years back and had good chat to many who do battles during the airshows clapping.gif , I was the WWII Navy contingent .

My apologies if I'm missing something really obvious, but as far as the L-39 is concerned what was wrong with a Go Around?

it wasn't a very spaced out landing and i guess he just wanted to get on the ground, because at this point you couldn't even see the other side of the airport
(well that's what i saw) no time for a go around either
