Went to check on my folks again today, and this time my father gave me a little book written by a relation of mine (my step uncle) , called Vernon Benner....now past away, from Te Puke. (I had never heard of him untill today!)
He flew spitfires during the war (501 sqn) I think i might take the book out to the museum..he (Mr Benner) has placed a note inside the cover, saying that he was disappointed about all the mistakes in the book, after all his hard work....apparently it wasnt editored that well....but really interesting reading.
He met guys like "Chalky" white and Alan Deere, and Johnny Houlton....just amazing stuff.
If anyone is interested the book is called "Born to fly" by Vernon Benner".......Im happy to loan it out , before i donate it.
