Another big one in CHCH

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

The Western side of the city appears to be ok , areas around the Jade/Lancaster park area (Phillipstown) , building simply fell in on themselves , Rick my brother run the 10 km to my place , a dash to check his family then to grab my bike to ride out to West Melton , glass windows exploding during aftershocks along Riccarton Rd .

The early September quake we could not see , it was dark , to see the internals of my small place move the way it did , to give a good example of how things feel in a minor aftershock , really is like being in server turbulence on a airliner , the ground moves in such a way like your in the air .

We arrived in CHC yesterday on NZ517, literally seconds after the quake struck. Got ushered through the Terminal, evacuation alarms blaring, cracks in walls shop stock and debris all over the floor. Felt the second aftershock as we were leaving terminal. Scary stuff. Really feel for all those Cantabrians not so lucky.

Unlucky timing Mavman!! Has anyone seen anything of Lyttleton on the news? I realise Robin used the word "devastating", but I've yet to see photos or video from that area. I hope the worst is now over for Christchurch. It needs time to recover!

Alister , Everything is very quite , best described like a Christmas day afternoon , with power back on , i have invited people who on the norm require internet access to use from here , lot simply are students down the back( my block of flats) from everywhere to give them chance to mail/contact to home , only thing i can offer .

Strange after the September Quake , the day was very very calm , no wind - bright blue sky , sort off very comfortable , currently appear,s to be the same but this time a gloomy day , Sirens have stopped , the day has been put on hold feeling . The city , not going their , plenty on the News

Al , Lyttleton , the town center is 60 per gone from what Rob said to me .

Really glad that you guys are all ok. Anyone still in contact with Beverley Howard Smith? She use to live right next to the river close to the centre of ChCh. She's one of the last I haven't been able to check up on.

I'm saddened that my dearly loved city is getting pulled apart, but glad that the spirit is fighting on. I feel for the families that may of not only lost homes, but loved ones. Sending all my thoughts through to you all.

Beverley's 'checked in' on Facebook.
The power has just come back on here, I was going to leave town but having electricity makes a lot of difference, so I'll stay. I've only just seen the tv coverage, it is beyond horrible. It makes the earlier quake a walk in the park.

The more news we get in England, the worse the situation is slowly becoming.

The list casualties is greater than we first imagined, and increasing every minute.

Its heart-breaking!

Thanks for letting me know about Bev, haven't spoken with her for ages, and know she live(d) close to the city and close to the river. I feel for everyone, must say I wish I could get on a plane and come home just to help. Sadly there would be little use for a payroll person, nor would the burden of another body help the city.

I spoke to friends on the night of the earthquake in Lyttelton, and they didn't realise the extent of what had happened, so I feel for everyone as they see the destruction of the beauty that is ChCh.

Stay safe everyone, I don't know how you can stay there.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Over 100 now and will go higher Andy - people don't get added to the RIP list until they have been formally identified, and Police are being very cagey with the number of how many still to be identified. There are also a couple of hundred missing but that could be as innocuous as they've shot through to stay with friends outside Christchurch without saying goodbye or they're safe in a camp somewhere but have no cellphone battery left ...

Glad to see some members posting. It's an awful feeling seeing images back home of all the devistation. Thankfully my family members there are OK and look to making the dash across to this side of the ditch.

My thoughts go out to everyone here from Canterbury.
Cheers,

Man Christchurch is not having a good time lately, Hopefully that's your share of bad things for the next 1000 years. Good luck with the cleanup.
And R.I.P to the people that came out second best.

Hi Sandman,

I donated through the British Red Cross here in the UK. I expect the German Red Cross will be doing something similar.

Hope that helps,
