See, in my mid's eye I have this Hero of the Day scenario:

Jumping in the Holden Maloo, you position on the runway threshold towing one of those helicopter handling skates.

At the signal from the tower, a full-bore launch, and the plane touches down behind you.
You back into him, he puts the nose down on the skate, and the guy on the loadbed (lucky fellow) leans over and pulls the pin.

Skate and aircraft slow down and stop safely, plane owners buy Hero a pint

Had it been a B17 not a large GA type you could have had the passengers on the crank handle winding the gear down , oh well , least they and all are safe on the ground without injury and a thumdsup for the pilots cool.gif

Hasnt that been down before, but by some guy on the back of truck speeding down the runway and then pulling down the front landing gear to lock in place ?

Paul I must've read something like this - maybe I am thinking about the Piper Cub that lands on the flatbed?

...and looking for a story about this all on the web, I found this delightful bit of reporting about a RAAF Sabre take-off:

Wasn't there a scene like that on Macgyver once? He was leaning Luke Duke style out the side of the car and pulled the gear down by hand I think.
