It looks like helicopter addon producers "Nemeth Designs" have ceased operations for the foreseeable future due to rampant piracy of their recently released A109 helicopter.

That really sucks for them and for us. Hopefully they can talk to a developer who doesn't suffer from the problem to the same degree and get some ideas on how to better protect their work so they're not down for too long - especially with 2 of them having no other income !

This piracy stuff is so frustrating. Is there any alternative other than having someone check upload sites dailly
and taking appropriate action? I feel for all these developers. Is it even possible to prevent this ?

MD500
UH-1H
A109
these are the nemeth types I own , the 109 is simply a brilliant rotor , just bloody pity they did not have a far more secure coding system.

we will be ceasing further development on products until we develop a proper anti piracy measure[/quote]
Well that is a bit like slamming the stable door after every single horse has bolted...next time, try developing anti piracy measures before you get ripped off, for goodness' sake??
It's not as if piracy is exactly an unknown event, it takes only one nice person (I didn't type "nice person" but, you know...) to upload to a torrent site, and it's gone.
Get real, guys...

I often wonder how any of these smaller payware groups stay in business at all. In many cases there can't possibly be a huge market for what they are producing anyway? They never release their sales figures that I am aware of.. but like anything in a global market, they must have some sort of market to aim at. That very nice ME108 for example. How many of those do they honestly expect to sell? Nothing against the designer, or the aircraft, I'm sure it's amazing, but realistically how much of a market do they think they will have? Same applies in my mind to helicopters..

I'm in the frame of mind that if they sold 500 at $5 per addon, rather than 50 at full price $35 (and the rest pirated) they would be better off. I think most who would consider pirating something might be more interested in actually owning it and having support for the $5 it would cost for their addon. And, you do the maths, they are better off financially selling more, for less.
But, then again, I am very naive when it comes to running an addon business!

Same theory could apply to the movies etc, but then, they cost millions to develop so it is a small price to pay to own a piece.. (yes I know FS is an infinitely smaller market)

The one big question is how come Torrent sites are not deleted directly by the so call watchdogs in the big sites 'Google' example must no who they are and if not- why are they not deleted by the other s, they have the money to hire a couple swipe sites , in a way the small develop groups all over the world can continue .

Alot of big torrent sites in the USA have been shut down. You will find that the torrent trakers still in the game are well hidden throughout europe, russia, asia.
