oh no I was being serious. I really was tempted after watching, but my head knows it's not for me. I enjoyed the video, it makes Flight look good I think?

I think MS was simply looking at cashing in on a paying market .. example: Me .. I brought FSX well over 7/8 years ago and FS9 well over 10 years back , those many years ago $120NZ for each and how many addons have i added , Captain Sim C-130 alone would blow this pricing out off the water , the FS9 equaled the cost plus off 2004 , then the FSX version with an extra doubled that again .

Do the numbers and MS would look at .. they are seriously missing out so too shut the door cancelled FSE , one base product that everyone is making money off but them .. Delete any possible outsider designers who would make money off the base product its simple , course add the eye candy ... swaying trees ... Now lets a bear Shite in the woods .

FSE was in the wings , but the lot got shot down .. MS models , really look at Flight its nothing special and probably close to what FSE was going to be but now you pay for every every area within a hundred miles , ..... OK but in rubbish MS models .. for me don't think so .. Till something is built on this , most people agree FSX is still the one and close second for the FS Niners .

To ya all's FS is Flight sim FSX/FS9/FSsss all the way back , FLIGHT team should channeled the idea and thoughts and forgot this .. lets Well come the 'Star' style approach .

I think they could find some middle ground actually (i.e. 3rd part developers pay a royalty or similar for being hosted in the Xbox Live store)- Totally shutting out 3rd part developers from Flight means MS will simply not have the resources to create the kinds of updates that the community is used to and interest may be lost. A good comparison is the failure of central planning (USSR) vs free market idealogies (USA), Flight Vs FSX respectively.

I think a large part of the appeal of Flight Simulator, up until now, is not just the act of flying, but visiting places YOU know and can recognise.....there isn't much emotional attachment to other locations and so interest quickly wanes (especially when the 'knobs and buttons' flying experience isn't there either).

Still, I stick by my earlier comments on Flight- It is FUN and there are some nice tweaks to the graphics engine which will likely make their way into the next Flight simulator

I believe they have already done it , shot them-selfs in the foot already , the community was .. how many .. your right , they are looking at the recent apps that people take to work/travel - PCs , go for a fly at lunch time cool.gif , again the thing is if you what to fly the V World its like a taxi fair , is there a base to build on for the start ? and when done with that do you pay to play with the players .

Lotta large groups have decided weather its worth a go or yo .. seems to me many are in the the YO mode .

The restrictions , boy that will really help a FS community ... hands up who flew FS1/2 ... all grey and exciting waiting , now its pay every 100 mile .

It is going to be interesting since they gave us the carrot , FLIGHT for free , then pay 20s till you get home to New Zealand ..

Hey Microsoft have missed the boat on everything at the moment. They are only just about to release Windows 8, which will run on multiple devices (in particular tablets and smartphones). Apple have had this for several years. The Zune was years behind the ipod and the whole idea of cloud computing, which was their idea, has been used by Apple for sometime now. Although I am not a Mac user (or even own an iphone) I am very impressed with the way their devices play so nicely with one another. They just work and work well. I can't say the same for any Microsoft product that I have owned. They are usually complex, unreliable, glitchy, slow and hugely frustrating. Even with Windows 7 I still get those frustrating "Explorer is not responding ..." messages and that damn annoying cursor changing to a revolving time out circle and then the waiting begins ...can't do anything else. Of course each new OS requires more $$$$$ to be invested and not just for one computer (we run 6 in the family).

So it comes as no surprise that Microsoft has gone the way it has with Flight. Too little, too late and catering to the wrong crowd. All with their usual arrogant take it or leave it approach.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

The thought comes to mind - Lockheed may have an agreement with Microsoft that they, MS, don't get back into a similarly (FSX) structured program thus giving Lockheed's Prepar3D the advantage - for now.

I was in the beta testing team and I have to say if you are a run of the mill Joe blogs then this GAME will be good for you.
For us Die Hard simmers who fly IFR from A to B and back again then this is not for you, yet any way. The graphics are great and the frame rates are pretty good but realism maybe a bit lacking. I think if you are wanting to start out it would be a great game to start with. I can see what Microsoft are trying to do with the finding of objects and that sort of thing. But for us I think it is not up to the realism of FSX. I think it is worth the download to see if it is for you. (provided you have a good broadband plan). Some of the challenges are pretty good but it is a game not a simulator. I too got board with the beta although the actual game does run somewhat better.

Cheers.

Cowpatz.
True on the pay per mile until you get back to NZ. However there is alot of open water between Hawaii and Nz that I would not be paying for.......

lOl Talk about Déjà vu

End off the day , Accell fixed many problems but also built on them ... how many FS9 products worked all including my example Cloud9 Phantom (the company did say they it was to work with FSX) it did until installing SP packs but that was typical off many company's building on a well use engine , one thing with FLIGHT is your restricted .. MS looked at getting out that box in 1992 , worked but providing third party were going to come in and build on it and that worked very well , its now a revolving door but ... OK this one has lost a hinge .

Apart from the nice lighting and clouds, it looks just like some orbx scenery. Still no decent land/water transition and the inland water has the same effect as at sea. Would have been nice if MS had worked a bit harder in those area's.
