I'm sure at least a few of you will be as pleased by this as I was - a good freeware IL-18 has been released, with a virtual cockpit!

Link to get it on Simviation here: http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file...mp;fileId=39639

It will go nicely with my growing collection of high-quality Russian aircraft addons!

There's also the military IL-38 version available somewhere on Simviation as well if that's what you prefer. smile.gif

Already covered this elsewhere, but:

1. This was VERY likely uploaded illegally/without authorization of the original author.

2. It is not designed in any way for FSX.

3. At least for me, the soundset that needs to be installed to hear the copilot/crew crashes the sim.

4. At least for me, accessing the systems to do a manual startup crashes the sim.

5. So, if you're ok with illegally uploaded, non-native FSX addons that do not even fully function, go for it.

I already tried to tell the SimV owner/staff about this, and they won't take it down.

No, I don't know that for sure, but...

The aircraft was created years ago by Edgar Giunart and was not designed for FSX.
Additionally, there is no contact information for the uploader (M. Miller) in the file, and SimV has a bad habit of letting anyone upload files if they say that they "fixed it for FSX". (There are/were various Project Tupolev Tu-154 iterations with false and incorrect "FSX conversions" against the wishes of PT uploaded there.)

I would love to ask the uploader, but I can't contact him.

The fact remains that there are many incompatible elements in this download, such as the copilot sounds, some gauges, and the "prop behind the clouds" issue, and I find it hard to believe that the uploader is connected to the original author and was allowed to upload the aircraft in this state.

EDIT: I found an email address for Mr. Guinart. We'll see if he responds and what he says.
EDIT 2: Looks like someone just uploaded an "FSX version" of Kirill's Il-96. Just PM'd Kirill about that, so we'll see if that one is legal too.

Thanks for the heads-up Sean, hope it isn't an illegal upload but if it is a mod can feel free to lock this - wasn't my intention to advertise something dodgy.

We all know it wasn't intentional. smile.gif
It's certainly not a bad aircraft...it's just made for FS2004.

It works absolutely wonderfully in that sim, and is quite enjoyable!

Hopefully I'll hear back from the original author in the coming days.

As a rule, I'm always very wary of downloading aircraft labelled "for FSX" from SimV due to issues like this, which seem to occur on a semi-regular basis.
