FS Instant Approach is an add-on for Microsoft FSX and FS2004. It allows you to setup an approach, at any airport, in under 30 seconds!

It seems that much of this is now built in to FS Flying School (same developer).
FS Flying School is (also) a brilliant little utility that I thoroughly enjoy. Check out their demo - more info here. Highly recommended!

Heh ... always keen to recommend a good product when I see one! Also - a BIG WELCOME to NZFF. Great to be able to get the info "straight from the horse's mouth"!
Seeing as you offered (!) ... what's the relationship between the two products? Though I'm relatively familiar with FSFS, I know next to nothing about Instant Approach.

Hi Adamski:
Thanks for the warm welcome!![]()
FS Instant Approach (FSIA) is a subset of FSFlyingSchool Pro (FSFS). All of what it does is contained within FSFS, with one small exception - explained below.
In brief, FSIA allows the pilot to put his/her plane, on approach to any runway at any airport in the world with a few mouse clicks. It generally takes less than 15 seconds to configure the approach in FSIA and then when the "connect" button is pressed, FSX moves the plane and loads the scenery and... there you are - lined up for the approach, at the speed and distance selected - on the glideslope. There are a great number of other options such as setting the wind speed, direction, visibility, gusting, local time of day, etc.
Users are reporting that one of their favourite features is the option to choose a random airport - great way to explore the simulated world. FSIA has several useful filters that control which random airport is selected, including filtering by minimum or maximum elevation, has ILS, has no ILS, filtering by ICAO code (such as "starting with 'NZ' or 'K' or 'EG').
You can also have FSIA automatically tune NAV1 to runway ILS if available, ATIS to COM2 and set the NAV1 OBS to the runway heading.
FSIA will also track the path of the flight and when complete the pilot can view it on Google Maps and save the data for later review.
The only feature in FSIA which is not also included in FSFS is the ability to set the wind direction relative to the plane. In FSFS you have to set it as a compass heading (in degrees).
(There are YouTube movies - am I allowed to put a link here?) ....YES (Admin) Thanks! (Jeff)
So... that is what FS Instant Approach does.
This YouTube video describes how it works...
But... this makes up a tiny fraction of what FSFlyingSchool Pro does...
Some YouTube videos showing a few different aspects of FSFlyingSchool Pro.
