ORBX FTX Global is out

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Now available. Coming down from the Aussie servers as we speak!
Since I just did a complete re-install of my laptop and currently have only vanilla FSX installed with no add-ons, this is a very timely release for me.
Before I install, though, I plan to take some screenies of default NZ and then some same again after install (and before I install the full ORBX FTX NZ packs and other airports from FS-Creations / Godzone).
Cheers :-)

it took me about 36mins to download from the oz server with a download agent

otherwise when it wouldve taken over a day by a single stream

its taking longer to backup and copy the files

I posted some comparative NZ screenshots over on the ORBX forums.
I'm now just installing NZNI and NZSI / Milford Sound.
Of course, FTX Global is of no use for NZ/AUS since I already have the ORBX regions for those, but it will enhance the rest of the world when I choose to fly around in other places.
I will eventually get more ORBX areas, but there is only so many $$$ to go around and the Wife is already wondering exactly how much my flight sim hobby and real (very occasional) flying is detracting from all the jobs around the house and garden!

Downloaded it here in the UK in about 45 minutes. thumbup1.gif

I've backed up my autogen folder, reverted all changed textures to FSX default and am now defragging so almost good to go.

Previously, I ran VLC on FSX and Orbx NZ on P3D but have now temporarily dropped P3D until v2.0 so I'll first be looking at VLC under Orbx textures and then installing Orbx NZ into FSX. From what I can see, I should still be able to run VLC with FTX Global's Hybrid Mode switched off but activate the full Orbx NZ region whenever desired.

Hopefully the best of both worlds. clapping.gif

Looking forward to seeing your results -- from a look at Jeff's screenshots on the FTX forum, and extrapolating a bit from various other shots -- I'm a bit more confident that VLC+FTXG will work very well.

I can't see me being able to afford this for the time-being, so I'm relying on you guys to come up with some great screenshots!

Strangely well not so , first time outside New Zealand for a whiles ... so lets see .

The WHOLE world the way Orbx imagined it!

Welcome to your new simulator. No product in the history of FSX or P3D produces such
an instant, radical and complete makeover like FTX Global does. Simply put, it
transforms the washed out bland textures of the default palette into the vibrant rich
and appealing Orbx FTX landscape - all with a simple installer. But the Orbx team did
not stop with just new textures. Dormant classes and meshing tiles not used by
default FSX have been unlocked so now unique types of terrain blend perfectly against
each other the way they should. Then there is a new zero-FPS -loss night lighting
system for the entire planet, including lighting of all major arterial roads in and
out of cities. Finally, a new "hybrid" mode is introduced for FTX Central
that now allows the classic Orbx FTX Regions to remain "active" with FTX
Global so you can do tran-ocean or continent flights without ever needing to see
default terrain ever again. Upgrade your sim TODAY!

- Total upgrade of your FSX or P3D!
- Many new gorgeous ground textures
- New autogen textures for buildings
- 3D night lighting with zero FPS impact
- Base landclass updated to enhance Asia etc.
- Unlocks dormant M-tiles for perfect blending
- Works with all 3rd party landclass products
- Works with all 3rd party mesh products
- Free service packs and patches from Orbx
- Same sized textures as default
- "Hybrid" mode for FTX Central regions
- Expandable with Orbx openLC packs!

Ill be back in the screen shot department smile.gif

I've posted some screenshots and impressions in the Screenshots forum:

VLC + Orbx FTX Global v Orbx FTX NZ

Hope that helps,

I'll hold off on this for a while ...... mainly for money reasons . I wonder when they will make some realistic looking rain for fsx instead of the grey lines we have now. ..... and stop putting those bloody roads through trees and paddocks dry.gif

Yes, rain just spoils the whole immersion thing for me. I quite like sitting at a little airfield listening to the rain and REX thunder, but while flying it's just weird.

The roads I have a bit more time for -- there is just a disconnect between vector roads and landclass textures, which is just the way FSX works. I think that X-plane 10 might handle this better, but I've never seen it myself. Some developers leave roads out because of this disconnect, but I'd rather have them there to follow, even if I have to squint a bit to make them look vaguely realistic.
