Yes, the airfields work, you just see the poles, no socks, which might offend you...smile.gif
They do have auto-installers, which will look for FSX, so you'd need some sort of registry hack to get them into P3D. I can send you the South Island pack as it is, it is all ready to go, I just need to find some time for final testing. I've been looking for a new house lately, which is really time-consuming, so I'm running behind as usual.
I'll package it up tonight and email it through to you. It's under 2MB from memory.

Yeah, that'd be Flightsim Central, for sure. Dunno if my flatmate would go for it though...
Actually, I think we've found a place at Diamond Harbour.

When I said 'tonight', I probably meant tomorrow. My son came over this afternoon, with my grandson, and a couple of bottles of his award-winning home brew, so I knocked off early for the day... and when my daughter-in-law came to pick them up, she left me enough ground coffee for a month...

That is a good day.

tongue.gif Yeah, after all the trouble I've had with espresso makers and other paraphernalia, my daughter gave me a stovetop espresso maker for Christmas, and it just makes things so much easier -- and quieter.

Well look at it this way .. I'd rather hear a boom chug a laga of your coffee machine more than a angry tribe or the bro's - now gone finger crossed .

So using the FSX to P3D migration tool (yet more $ - forget how expensive simming is lol) I managed to get all the little airfields and airports that toprob suggested installed - as well as Doug's marvellous creations. So far so good!

Framerates aren't quite as good as one had hoped - still seems to drop into the low to mid 20's over populated areas (Auckland, Nelson, and Queenstown being to 3 places I have so far visited with an urban sprawl). I expected a bit better, but it's relatively smooth so I'm not too bothered at this stage. I'd rather just get to flying than tweaking. I did get an OOM error last night though which was super annoying! Guessing I'll have to turn down the LOD and autogen. Hopefully patch v2.2 will help dramatically with OOM.

Loaded up my old Carenado Cessna 185F and noticed how bland it looks beside the A36 Bonanza. Anyone recommend some modern HD bush flying planes? Really like having the wings above the window so I can see the view. Also, I found that some of the main highway lights (Nelson @ night was an example) are way too bright compared to the night textures - it sticks out like a sore thumb. Any way to dial these down a tad?

This is worth considering at some stage, I must admit I almost never fly at night:)
One issue I've had with P3D is the HDR setting at night. This can 'blow out' the lighting a lot, and it is worthwhile trying night flying without HDR for a toned-down experience.

The 'hotfix' did overcome most OOMs for me, but it is good to know that LM are almost ready to go with another fix which should sort this out once and for all. Quite funny to read your comment about frames rates -- I remember for a long time FSX users would have sold their grandmothers for frame rates in the mid 20s, but this is a valid point -- there is still a long way to go before we see frame rates comparable to modern games.

I'm a pretty avid gamer, so I'm used to silky smooth 60fps, but I knew there was no way I would achieve that in P3D or FSX. I had hoped with DX10 & DX11 though, we'd see some of the work offloaded to the GPU to give us better frames. If I can keep it above 25 I'm fairly happy. It is nice to see that autogen doesn't have a huge impact on frames these days.

Will try turning off HDR as you suggest.

Now I remember why I gave up a few years ago.

So anyway, P3Dv2 has been put on the back burner. It crashes too frequently with a g3d.dll error - it seems this can be fixed by purchasing the registered version of FSUIPC but I'm reluctant to just throw more $ at it. I also get odd shadow corruption when I enable receive shadows internal and external the aircraft, so I cannot use this feature either at the moment sad.gif

So, i went back to FSX (using DX10) and so far so good. The only downside is that the couple of HD aircraft from Carenado I have destroy framerates. Though I remember this being an issue in the past too. The more basic planes are ok though and I can enjoy a fairly smooth and stable flight. One problem is FSUIPC crashing on startup, so had to disable that for now. But I'm getting close!

Can someone recommend some HD aircraft that are not framerate hogs? I don't know a whole lot about the different types of small planes, but I'm happy with the older aircraft that still use dials and gauges rather than an all glass cockpit. The BN-2 Islander is a good example of a quality plane that doesn't hit my framerate too hard. Probably looking for something single prop though - and prefer something that still has old school VOR and NBE navigation (as well as a small GPS unit).

A thought, many payware aircraft and addons come with a registered version of FSUIPC , a little odd if you have to be required to buy this utility to get the sim running ?

They come with the free version normally? I haven't had any that install it from memory though. It was a suggested fix by some random on the P3D forums, not their official response. I have a feeling it's to do with 3rd party textures, but at this stage I'm over it. Fiddling takes hours because P3D takes ages to load, and when it crashes I have to repeat the cycle. FSX for now is running stable and giving me similar FPS.

I wonder how many others maybe experiencing this issue, running a sim for hours for it to load is ridiculous but I'm sure it is one off these silly PC type problems - I bet if installed on a new HD or maybe PC everything would work.

I'm sure it loads up fast on SSD! But don't have the room on my SSD at this stage.
