Roelio , we had the luxury of one flying in and out off Christchurch over a week never quite reached the evening - more midday - but still a nice site to see cool.gif

Well, I'm not an expert on Air NZ departure times winkyy.gif so let's say it's winter and the sun goes down early. And also assume that it is a warm winter, so there is no snow biggrin.gif
Or, it's heavily delayed winkyy.gif

That specific aircraft I mentioned, he didn't no which way to go .. I caught him on Rwy20 then he stopped turned around between the gaps in the traffic and took off on Rwy02 , with that 'I can't decide which runway to use' within those hours, It would have been superb to see that 747 using Rwy29/11 ... now that would have been extra cool.gif

SP, I was a bit worried about that too. A hunt around the 'Net for 'oktas' found lots of definitions from various sources - met offices, airport forecasts and suchlike - all consistently stating that, say, 'three oktas' meant there was enough cloud present to obscure three-eights of the visible sky, when viewed using a mirror marked off with a 16-square grid. I know RAF Weather bods looked up through a skylight which had eight panels, instead of down at a grid on a mirror.
The crucial point is that Clear Sky = 0 oktas, and Light Cloud = 1 okta.
So as I see it, anything less than 1 okta must be clear sky. So a modicum of fluffy things - as seen in that whale of an entry I posted - must be legit.
Unfortunately, it's not me that runs the comp; Doug's decision is final. unsure.gif

I hired an aircraft on a clear day out of Ashburton, clear it is but at 5000 ft it is not, another flight, early morning out off Wigram to Ashburton it was... a Clear Day

I had clear skies set with about 40m vis which I would say would be at the top end of the scale for distance visibility ?,...I usually have my FSX set at about 20m vis....

It is OK if one or two small fluff's drift into your clear day image but the part of NZ that you have in the background must be clearly visible

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is your captain speaking. Thank you for flying with Air New Zealand in our new Lockheed L-188 Electra.
As we will be running ahead of schedule due to favourable winds aloft, my First Officer and myself decided to give you a once in a lifetime view of the (VLC) Central Plateau on this on this lovely clear summer’s day.
If you care to look to the left of the aircraft you will see our triangle of North Island mountains. Mount Ruapehu, Mount Tongariro, in the distance Mount Egmont, and of course Mount Ngauruhoe in full bloom. Yes, that’s rocks and ash folks, not cloud.
Feel free to leave your seats for a better view. If you wish to take photos, please share the opportunity of our empty window seats in rows 8 and 11.
Enjoy the panoramic view. Shortly we will turn slowly to the west and set course for Sydney. You will have another few minutes for photos, then we will ask that you return to your seats for our climb to cruising altitude.
