Have to be honest .... when i get a chance to sleep in , the noise from the rubbish trucks outside wakes me up real fast .... "is it a quake" .... life has changed down here .... and its not nice.
I know the rest of NZ is thinking "get over it" .... but its hard to get over it . My place was trashed in the first one , and munted (broken in half) in the next one ..... wow , still seems to be a raw nerve sorry.
Always on edge ... packed and ready to run , a sad way to live , but for now its how it is .... now, how did we get here ? this is a flightsim forum .

I do wonder how of these people complain and may even live on a busy road ... before the street I live in here was modified every boy duffess with a Milo can on the back off his exhaust just to make a noise, what about those trucks with engine brakes ..

Not sure if those smart approaches were published in the AIP whilst active, but have been living under the BASIV6A and ARADI6A STAR for the majority of the last 10 years and haven't noticed too much of a change in air traffic.

On an unrelated subject, I did note EK412 inbound on the ARADI6A yesterday lunchtime, whilst operating around the LOSGA position outside of controlled airspace at 2500ft. The arrival states to be at or above 5000ft at this point but I swear it looked less than 1000ft above me. Might have just been the clear weather and giant scale of the A380 that made it appear closer!

I was thinking the same thing, can anyone comment on this?

Edit: actually thinking about this, most slower domestic traffic comes from the south, and the rnp equipped aircraft flying this approach would be coming from the north, or as for the case of 320s from oz, at least faster. I guess the north south separation is needed to land everything on time?

Seriously though, is there any reason for NZAA SIDS and STARS to cross the central city at all? Not being a local, I could be missing something, but if the routes shown in the graphic were mirrored to the south, wouldn't they work just as well?

The problem here is that International arrivals and departures would be mixing it up with Domestic arrivals and departures and the efficiencies would be lost. It would require altitude hold downs and/or extra vectoring. All this adds to increased controller workload and extra fuel consumed during the hold down or extra track mileage due to vectoring. There is nothing at all wrong with the SMART approaches. They could be fine tuned a little possibly. Maintaining the conventional STAR arrivals would allow a bit of a mix with the SMARTs (as during the trial) and so share around any "noise".
Departures from 05R and 23L are already required to essentially climb runway heading until 3000ft before a turn to the North so by the time they are anywhere near the city they would be in excess of 4000 to 5000 ft.

As can be seen in the report most of the submitters are regular whingers and even then they are complaining about noise that is not even related to the SMART approaches.
Just wait until the second runway gets underway...then the phones will ring hot.

Like most that visit here, my ears and theirs pick up the very slight moan or whine and rumble (music to our ears), we all generally go racing out with scanners and cameras in hand and enjoy the view.

Maybe these people should get a stamp ticket .. one complaint and if you require to fly somewhere - they have to wait a six month period .. you are not allowed to fly .. two complaints, a year and so on
.. that'll sort em .. three complaints and you simply are not allowed to use the service, domestic or international.

When I worked at NZWN we had complaints all the time about diggers and trucks when we were doing night work on the RESA. They also complained when Air Nelson did engine tests on the SAABs after about 10 at night. I'm convinced these people need to be shot.
