They had an IFR slot booked with control for a VOR/DME approach so that might explain it

A few quick snaps of the DA42NG demonstrator that has been camping on our apron since yesterday afternoon. Not a huge change in look, rudder, engines and props being the main changes.

Surprised SUNAIR or another is not picking them up to return ANZ services to the regions.

No one in their right mind would pick up a 1900D and attempt to operate the exact services AirNZ is dropping. The 1900D isn't uneconomical just because Eagle operate it, its uneconomical full stop. The only way any of these exited routes will make a $ in my view is with a single turbine, single pilot operation. The improved efficiencies and reduced overheads of such an operation may just be able to turn a profit.

The important thing to remember here is that if AirNZ couldn't make money on these routes it will be extremely hard for any other operator to make a profit also. AirNZ have the advantage of brand recognition, international connections ( + codeshares ) and corporate contracts, most of those won't change operator. They are more likely to drive to an AirNZ operated airport ( such as TRG ).

I do believe there is a market in the North Island for a Sounds Air style operation with C208's ( a PC-12 operator my also see some success country wide I think ). I personally do not believe a GA operator with clapped out, old light piston twins that are not properly equipped for the operating environment will have any sustainable future.

Cheers Scott, I noticed the mention on the news .. Mister Campbell show the ANZ CEO explaining the viable .... maybe a return to the old DC3 Nah (bugger)....... as I pointed out in a another post, even a Dash8 would suit these regions more half PAX and half Cargo ... but the PC12 would be ideally suited for the zippy routes , time speed equals money .

Funny as they pointed out on the show last night, no one could get a seat ... today in the Christchurch mail we got bus route plan for 2015, here - this is one area that CHCH has is a very good public transport system , its superb, so maybe these smaller airways regionals have to add that little extra costing.

I understand the entire Eagle fleet has been purchased by a South African operator. One can only assume they won't be used for scheduled RPT services!
