New freeware covering a large region in northwestern Russia was released a short time ago:

For FSX. It comes with full season variations (manually installed) as well. If you decide to try it out, I recommend installing the "light" city scenery option, as the "max" version even caused my machine to get an OOM.

I almost get the chills looking at a place like that, I keep thing of the arctic convoys during WWII , steam coming off the ocean because the air temperature is so cold!

It comes with two airports as part of the package. I've only tried the one (pictured) so far.

Wow, this looks like a great place to learn some Russian birds! If someone is familiar with these birds I'd like to hear it, YouTube doesn't get me much further than starting up these things...

I'm basically familiar with nearly all FSX Russian aircraft out there....

The Sibwings An-2 pictured above is a great starting point.

I'd say a good progression is:

Swingman's Po-2 or Sibwing's An-2
Ivan Jurcaga's MiG-21MF or one of the Sukhois or MiGs from Flight1 (either ALS Studios Flanker or one of the Bear Studios MiGs)
Project Tupolev Tu-154B-2
Konstantinov Tu-144

Probably the best Russian helicopter out there right now in terms of realism is Nemeth Designs Mi-24V for FSX.

Hmm I should look into that An-2, since there are some places in Poland where you can fly one of those. You can even do your PPL training in an An-2 at some places
I do own most of those aircraft (the MiG-17 and Mi-24V, the others are freeware), but the one I'm actually most interested in is the SCS Tu-134 since there is one on display at my flightschool. Problem is that English manuals are pretty much non-existent and YouTube videos only cover the start up. (which I can dream now) But sadly none of them cover on how to use the navigation instruments or auto pilot. So in my quest of learning this bird, I actually started translating the cockpitlabels and replace them with English ones. So far I just covered the Ventilation panel, so it's going quite slowly, since Google Translate doesn't know some of the terms used on the panels. Plus, the textures used are low resolution so sometimes they are very hard to read. Maybe you can help me with that?

Haha I hear ya! I'm just 22 so my lifespan should be long enough to translate this thing And I don't speak Russian, I just type all the Russian letters into Google Translate and hope for the best Not doing to bad to be honest!

I actually found a way to work around this problem. I enabled a Cyrillic Keyboard on my phone and just type everything letter by letter into the Google Translate App. Works excellent! Too bad some letters are unreadable due to the low resolution of the panel...
